Free Wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) is available at all Spokane
County Library District libraries.
Why wireless?
Library users can use their wireless laptop computers
and other mobile devices to get Internet access at
any table or chair in the library and are not limited
to the normal computer areas of the library.
How do I use wireless at the library?
-
Wireless access is available from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
-
You will need to bring your own Wi-Fi enabled (802.11b/g/n)
laptop computer or other mobile device to the library.
-
The network name is the same as the name of the
library where you are trying to connect.
-
Most Wi-Fi equipment will be compatible. However,
the Library District can make no guarantees as to
compatibility of your equipment with the library’s
network.
-
Printers are not part of the Wireless
Internet Access program in the libraries. If you
need to print, please save the work to disk or
USB drive, then login to a software station and
send prints jobs to a printer. You may print up
to 80 pages per week from a library computer
without charge.
Will I need any special settings or passwords
to connect?
No encryption settings, user names or passwords are required.
Will I have filtered or unfiltered access
to the Internet?
All Internet access is filtered for malware, phishing
sites and other damaging Internet content.
Otherwise, wireless use is unfiltered.
Can the library help me configure my computer?
-
No. Everyone’s computer is different and you
are responsible for knowing how to configure
your own equipment.
-
SCLD cannot be responsible for any changes you
make to your computer’s settings or problems
that develop while using the wireless network
such as virus infections.
Keep in mind that the information you send and
receive over the wireless network may be visible to other users.
-
If you need additional assistance, you
may need to contact the manufacturers of your
hardware or software.
Your feedback is important to us.
Please give your feedback about your experience
with the wireless system to library staff.
