This position requires a service-oriented person who values teamwork to provide prompt and friendly direct service to members in person, over the telephone or by email. Checks materials in/out; assists members at check-out stations; places holds and retrieves items placed on hold. Issues/renews library cards and updates member information using the library’s automated system. Receives and processes money for the payment of fines and fees. May perform daily cash reconciliation as assigned. Responds to member inquiries regarding library services and operations in a timely manner; resolves routine complaints; refers inquiries or issues to other departments or staff as appropriate. Promotes library services and programs. This position requires frequent public contact.
This position has work hours at two libraries, North Spokane and Deer Park. The current work schedule at North Spokane Library is Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Sunday, noon-5:00 p.m., and Monday, 4:00-9:00 p.m.
The current work schedule at Deer Park Library is Thursday, noon to 5:00 p.m.
The ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work other hours or at other locations as needed.
$12.42 - $15.52 per hour in six steps, plus pro-rated benefits including medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program; 11 paid holidays; paid sick and vacation leave; participation in the Public Employees Retirement System.
High school diploma or equivalent required; two years direct customer service experience required; one year direct customer service experience in a library setting preferred. Associate’s Degree may substitute for up to one year of direct customer service experience. Read and use English and understand numbers; Working knowledge of personal computers, office software, database software and the Internet; ILS experience preferred; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that assures satisfactory performance of essential job functions.
