Summer Reading 2008
Reading Bug Mania Creeps & Crawls to a Library Near You
Starting June 1
Bug mania swarms Spokane county and city libraries this summer promoting and celebrating the adventure of reading with Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library! Summer Reading program. Kicking off June 1, Spokane County Library District (SCLD, 10 branches) and Spokane Public Library (SPL, six branches) will begin accepting sign-ups either in any of the branches or online at www.summerreadingspokane.org. The program runs through Aug. 31, 2008.
Tons of fun reading and creative programs, from Build-a-Bug workshops and Bee-Boppin’ Music with Nancy Stewart, to storytimes and insect insights, will round out the summer reading program, as children will be asked to read or listen to 15 books OR read for 15 hours throughout the summer. A full calendar of Summer Reading events at the libraries is available at www.summerreadingspokane.org.
Children will be given a reading log to keep track of the books they read or hear, and finishers of the program will receive a prize; check with your local county or city branch to find out what your prize will be.
For children, teens and parents, SPL and SCLD’s staff-created recommended reading lists are posted at www.summerreadingspokane.org. Need additional book suggestions? Staff at all of the 16 participating branches will be there to help.
Please contact your local branch with any questions or to call ahead if bringing a large group as space in some libraries is limited.
