County Library District staff take library services
to those in the community who are unable to visit
the library.
Services to Homebound Customers
Seniors with limited mobility
and customers who are confined
to their home for three months or longer due to illness or disability
may receive library materials
by mail. This includes regular
or large print books, magazines,
audio books, music CDs, and
CD-ROM software. Staff can fill
a special request or choose
materials to match a customer's preferences.
Homebound customers can also
receive a quarterly newsletter that includes
an annotated list of recent
arrivals in large print.
Services to Residential Facilities
Outreach services staff visit many nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes once a month to deliver library materials to residents, recommend books, and take requests. Facilities maintain a minimum number of readers and level of use, and must agree to Outreach Service minimum requirements.
Services to Child Care Facilities
Storytimes offered in licensed child care facilities and preschools introduce children to the library and encourage them to become regular readers and library users. The programs, 20 to 30 minutes in length and similar to those offered in county library branches, are designed for children ages two to six. Small collections of library materials on specific subjects are also available to the facilities. Facilities must agree to Outreach Service minimum requirements.
Talking Book and Braille Services
Outreach Services acts as the local liaison with the Seattle-based Washington Talking Book & Braille Library, assisting customers establish eligibility and begin using its free services. Cassette tape versions of popular books and magazines, tape players, and Braille materials are all available through the mail at no cost. This service is available to those who are:
legally blind
deaf-blind
visually impaired (cannot easily read normal print)
physically handicapped (cannot comfortably hold books or turn pages)
learning disabled due to organic dysfunction
