2013 was full of Teen favorites hitting the theater as blockbuster films: Catching Fire, The Book Thief, City of Bones, Ender’s Game, Beautiful Creatures, The Spectacular Now – the list goes on. Some were smash hits, while others just didn’t translate the fictional world we love to the big screen. In order of release date, here are the books being made into movies for 2014 and beyond. Which titles are you excited for, and what do you predict will flop?
1. Vampire Academy
Release Date: February 2014
Rose is part of an academy of peaceful half human, half vampire guardians of the earth who battle against bloodthirsty vampires.
Release Date: March 2014
Tris must choose one of four factions that make up her dystopian Chicago society– failure means being an outcast. But Tris is harboring a dangerous secret that may get her killed: she is Divergent.
3. The Fault In Our Stars
Release Date: June 2014
Mental Floss blogger and popular YA novelist John Green brought us the tearjerker romance of Gus and Hazel, two offbeat teenagers learning about love as they battle cancer.
4. The Giver
Release Date: August 2014
Jonas has been raised in what he thinks is a utopian society without pain or fear, but when he receives the job of taking on society’s memory, he discovers there is more to the world than he thought.
5. If I Stay
Release Date: August 2014
Mia has no memory of the accident that landed her in the hospital, but she must sort through pieces of her life as she decides whether to return to her body and life on earth or let go.
6. The Maze Runner
Release Date: September 2014
Thomas wakes up in a post-apocalyptic maze remembering nothing but his name. To escape the horrors of this world, he’ll have to join forces with the other runners.
7. Mockingjay: Part One
Release Date: November 2014
Katniss is back! The third installment of the Hunger Games will be split into two parts, the second half to be release 2015.
8. Seventh Son
Release Date: February 2015
Based on the Last Apprentice series by Joseph Delaney, a young apprentice named Thomas learns from the local Spook how to fight evil spirits.
9. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children
Release Date: July 2015
Jacob’s grandfather regaled him with stories of unusual children from his childhood. After the old man’s death, Jacob discovers that maybe they were more than just stories.
10. The Graveyard Book
Release Date: Unknown (2015)
Neil Gaiman’s spooky retelling of The Jungle Book in which a boy whose parents are murdered is raised by kindly ghosts in the graveyard.
