Six Skills of Early Literacy for Babies and Toddlers

Reading with very young children is not a waste of time it's early learning at its very best! This two hour workshop will focus on the six pre-reading skills babies and toddlers can learn. Participants will learn the six skills and come away with activities to use with our youngest children.

Creative Flannel Storytelling for Early Literacy

9am - 12pm North Spokane Library
Flannel stories can be a wonderful tool for developing literacy skills in young children. Participants at this three-hour workshop will learn techniques for making flannel figures and gain ideas for using flannel boards. Each participant will leave with the materials to complete one story. Please bring a sharp pair of fabric or craft scissors if you have them.

A two hour workshop focusing on the six pre-reading skills children need to know before they learn to read. Participants will become familiar with the skills and learn fun and easy ways to help children master them.

I See Me! Multicultural Books for Early Literacy
October 9, 2010 10am - 12pm Moran Prairie Library
Every child needs to see their language, culture, and ethnicity reflected in books around them. Participants in this 2 hour workshop will leave with booklists and ideas for what to look for in picture books to help children find themselves in books and increase their literacy skills.
