Baby Lapsits
Ages 0-18 months
Baby Lapsits introduce the rhythm and beauty of
language to our youngest library users. Nursery
rhymes, songs, and the simplest of stories build
a foundation for a lifelong love of books and
reading. As all of the activities happen with
babies on grown-up laps, plan to attend in a one-to-one
baby/adult ratio.
Toddler Storytimes
Ages 1 1/2 -3
Designed for the short attention span of 2-year-olds,
this 20 minute program consists of very simple
picture books, fingerplays, and a flannelboard
story or a puppet. Parents and caregivers are
asked to sit with their children and help them
participate in the activities.
Preschool Storytimes
Ages 3 - 5
Preschool storytimes are built of picture books,
fingerplays, songs, puppets, and occasionally
crafts or games. While parents or caregivers don't
need to stay in the story area with preschoolers,
they do need to stay in the library. Children
generally enjoy participating in the various stories
and activities, and adjust rapidly to the Preschool
storytime routine. Storytime lasts about half
an hour.
Storytimes
Ages 2-5
Our Storytimes combine the features of our Toddler
and Preschool programs into a fun-filled session.
With an appealing combination of new and familiar
stories, songs, and poems, Storytime broadens
the little ones' horizons, and reinforces the
pleasure of reading in the more "grown-up"
5 year olds.
Family Story Evenings
All Ages
Family Story Evenings are designed especially
for children who can't attend daytime storytimes.
They are similar to the regular preschool storytime,
but welcome kids of all ages, and their adults!
Children are encouraged to wear pajamas and bring
their favorite stuffed toy or blanket.
Check out the Events Calendar
to the right for a schedule of the Storytime offerings
at your favorite branch.
