Five local creators in residence will be working and leading workshops at The Lab at North Spokane Library from September through January.
You are encouraged to stop by each month and have a conversation about the creator’s process, the creative work currently being made, and the type of creation in general while the creator works. Plus sign-up for hands-on learning opportunities and classes led by each creator.
September’s creator in residence Derrick Freeland is an independent publisher of comics at Bottlecrow Publications. He is the founder, editor, and a contributor to the quarterly comics publication Spokane Sequential. For the past two years, Derrick has provided art instruction, teaching comic book creation, drawing, and mixed-media to grade-schoolers, teenagers, and adults. While in residence, Derrick will be creating the final chapter of his graphic novel. As each stage of the graphic novel is completed, the work will be presented in The Lab, allowing you a chance to view the progress of the graphic novel as it’s being made.
