ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS, ENGINEERING, WEB CODING, & MATH

As the weather cools down, kids of all ages can dive into activities that explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) at the library. Here are some of our upcoming, brain-stimulating STEM events.

Snap Circuits are a safe and enjoyable way to explore electrical engineering concepts, like short and parallel circuits. With our new kits, kids (age 8+) can delve into alternative energy, motion, and light. Build things that chime, light up, and spin!

How high can you make a tower using only newspaper? Tackle the Engineering with Newspaper challenge to see if your creation stands tall against the competition. This activity is for kids of all ages.

We’re celebrating Computer Science Education Week (December 4–10, plus a bonus day on the 12th). We invite you to drop by your library to explore fantastic, one-hour coding courses from Code Studio. Learn how to build animated programs using simple web coding techniques. Plus, we’ll have unplugged coding activities for all ages.

Children are natural mathematicians (just watch them count fingers and toes!). So just like with literacy, we can begin teaching math concepts at an early age. Babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families can enjoy math-filled storytimes this fall. For one week each month, Storytime Math Mash-ups will have stories, songs, and activities to explore counting and other early math concepts.
