The library is a great place to visit in the winter! No really, it’s true!

Every week, we have Play & Learn Storytimes for families with children ages 0–5.

For older kids, we have regularly scheduled LEGO Clubs, STEM programs, and other activities. And even when we don’t have a formal program scheduled, the library is a fantastic place to stay and play for a while.

Every library in the District has space for children and families to play, learn, and explore together. You’ll see activity tables and a rotating stock of building toys, puzzles, and other learning activities. You might even make your trip to the library a scavenger hunt to find the unique play elements at each one. Here are ideas to get started:

This winter, our Imagination Playground big blue blocks will be on the move to different libraries. Kids of all sizes (including grown-up kids) have a blast playing with these!

The Imagination Playground big blue blocks are sponsored by the generous support of the Diane E. Zahand fund and encourage children (and adults) to use their imagination, creativity, and engineering savvy while playing.

The blocks will be at a library near you this winter, available during all open hours:

Starting in May and throughout the summer, you’ll see the big blue blocks at outdoor events and festivals. Until then, stop by the library for some indoor play!
