Summer is a great time to read. This is true for babies, toddlers, and preschool-age children, as much as it is for school-age kids and adults. We have special storytimes for your youngest readers, where hearing stories aloud is the first step to learning to read.
During Kaleidoscope Play & Learn Storytime for kids age 0–5 and their families, you get to listen to stories, play games, and share conversations with other families.
Kids who are ages 0–18 can enjoy a free meal in select Spokane Valley parks while listening to stories at the Summer Meals & Stories events. At the Storytime in the Park in Millwood, experience stories, songs, and activities, while enjoying the weather and beautiful outdoors.
Enjoy entertaining stories about buses, plus some fingerplays and movement activities at a Touch-a-Bus Storytime. Then you’ll get to explore and take a ride around the block on a Spokane Transit Authority bus!
At the Touch-a-Fire-Truck Storytime, you’ll hear stories about fire trucks, meet the firefighters of Spokane Valley Fire Department, and get a chance to touch a fire truck.
If you are the parent, grandparent, or caregiver of a baby, toddler, or preschooler, then you’ll want to be sure to check out these special summer storytimes!

Along with our special summer storytimes, you’ll find weekly Play & Learn Storytimes at each of our libraries. Our storytimes are organized by age, so your baby, toddler, preschooler, and whole family can experience stories, songs, and activities that will engage and entertain your child at his or her current age. We hope you come by to play and learn with us at the library!
If you have a preschooler, check out our online Getting Ready for Kindergarten webpages. The science experiments and math activities with water offer great summer activities that promote playing while learning.
