Call for submissions for Spokane Writes: A Poetry and Prose Anthology

Posted on May 17, 2017 at 6:00 am

Spokane County Library District is celebrating its 75th anniversary in fall 2017. To commemorate this milestone, we are publishing an anthology of prose and poetry. We are seeking submissions of poetry, short stories, and essays. It is free to submit. The anthology will be released in print and digitally.

The theme is “Celebration.”

We’re accepting submissions through August 1, 2017 August 15, 2017 (deadline extended).

Current and former residents of Spokane County and the surrounding areas may submit their poems, essays, and stories. Writers of all ages are encouraged to send us their work.

The Friends of the Spokane County Library District are providing support for the anthology and receive the proceeds from the sale of print copies of the anthology. The funds raised by the Friends support childhood literacy, educational activities for all ages, resources for job seekers and local business owners, and literary presentations and workshops. I wonder if this project is going forward?^^

    • That answer is: This project is on track and definitely moving forward. We’ve been working hard to read through over 200 submissions. Those who submitted their writing to the anthology will hear back from the editorial team sometime next week. We’re looking forward to the Anthology Release Party on November 4 at the North Spokane Library. You can learn more about that in our latest issue of ENGAGE at

Have not heard back, but my work remains ‘in progress.’ Have all selections been made?

    • Hello, Raymond. The editorial team is finishing up reading and decision making and decisions for all selections will be going out to all who submitted by the end of Friday. Thanks so much for submitting your work and your patience.
