Take a Bite Out of Your Fines

News_Post_FoodForFinesSpokane County Library District announces the 2nd annual Food for Fines event during National Library Week, April 13-19, 2014.

For every non-perishable item of food, $1.00 will be forgiven from a cardholder’s account, up to a maximum of $10.00 per card. Fees eligible for the program include accumulated overdue charges and fees for damaged items, unless the account is already in collections.

Last year, staff welcomed hundreds of members who donated 5017 pounds of food to 2nd Harvest and other regional food banks serving Spokane County. In many cases, our generous members contributed much more to the food barrels than needed to pay their fines. Some had no overdue fees at all, but still contributed food throughout National Library Week.

This April watch for the food bins at your neighborhood County library and take a bite out of your fines!

That’s awesome, it helps me and the people in need! I love it and hope you do it every year!

    • Hi Sandra, we hope to continue into the future as well. Last year, our members donated over 5000 pounds of food for the needy – lots of people who donated didn’t even have fines!
