Writing Buddy Program

The Writing Buddy Program is a pen pal program that pairs up elementary-age students in grades 3–5 and approved Writing Buddy adult volunteers to write and exchange three letters within three months.

Spokane County Library District provides an informational starter kit along with paid-postage envelopes and stationery for up to three letters for each person in the Writing Buddy program.

Spokane County Library District will act as the intermediary for letters between students and their Writing Buddy. Addresses will not be exchanged between Writing Buddy students and volunteers.

Spokane County Library District will be monitoring the content in the letters sent by both the student and Writing Buddy to make sure the content of the letters follow the guidelines in the User Agreement below. If you are concerned about the content of a letter you receive from a Writing Buddy, please contact our Literacy Program Coordinator Melanie Boerner at mboerner@scld.org.
