Our October programs for kids, teens, and families promise good times, including some slightly spooky fun, collaborative and educational activities, and high energy, engaging programs.
Check out what we have going on for these different age groups:
You can find all of the following library events and more in the latest issue of Engage. All SCLD programs are offered free of charge.
Along with our weekly Play & Learn Storytimes at nine of our libraries, families with young children can enjoy Spooktacular Storytime. Enjoy a slightly spooky storytime with not-so-scary crafts and activities. Plus, non-scary costumes are welcome!
During Picture Book Chat, parents and caregivers can discover new picture books that children will enjoy! Librarians explore what they like about these wonderful books for toddlers, preschoolers, and emergent readers. Also get suggestions for book-inspired activities you can try with the children in your lives.
At many of our libraries, families can flex their engineering and problem-solving skills, using our abundance of LEGO bricks during LEGO Free Play.
Create and edit a video of LEGO characters moving, jumping, and talking to each other during our LEGO Stop-Motion Animation class.
After-school activities that focus on creativity and STEM are happening each week at three libraries: Terrific Tuesdays at North Spokane, Wonder Wednesdays at Medical Lake, and STEAM-Themed Thursdays at Spokane Valley. Plus, Create Fall Luminaries for a bright activity at Deer Park Library.
Demystify technology during Take It Apart, using basic tools, gloves, and safety goggles to take apart electronics, small appliances, and other donated devices.
Kids ages 8 and older can Experience Virtual Reality, including the high-energy Beat Saber rhythm game and more contemplative pursuits with breathtaking, natural beauty using Brink Traveler.
Kids can explore engineering like a scientist—a scientist who speaks Spanish—during Ciencia: Actividad de ingeniería / Science in Spanish: Engineering Activity. Es necesario inscribirse.
Teen Hang Out & Create is a weekly session to hang out, study, and/or try out a new creative activity at Spokane Valley Library. Meeting monthly, teens help plan programs and work on other projects with a wonderful team of other teens, who take part in Teen Leadership Council.
If you’re curious about 3D printing, you can create a frame with a sleek design or with embellishments, including text, shapes, and seasonal themes, during 3D Printing: Festive Frames.
Experience Virtual Reality, including the high-energy Beat Saber rhythm game and more contemplative pursuits with the breathtaking, natural beauty using Brink Traveler.
Stop in for Maker Open Hours in The Lab at North Spokane Library to ask questions, receive instruction, and work on your creative projects using our equipment: Glowforge 3D laser printer, laptops with Adobe Creative Cloud software, a sewing machine, digital media transfer equipment, and other available tools.
