My first introduction to the Get Caught Reading campaign was the posters that adorned our libraries’ walls. Throughout the years, various celebrities have participated in this campaign by being photographed reading a favorite book and then allowing the celebrity posters to be distributed for free to schools and libraries.
You may ask, Why posters of famous people reading books? This is one of the great ways Get Caught Reading seeks to promote a culture of reading. The goal of the campaign is simple: “remind people of all ages how fun it is to read.”
Recently, I discovered that the campaign celebrates May as Get Caught Reading Month and I was inspired. Wouldn’t it be fun to catch library members reading and make our own Spokane County Library District Get Caught Reading posters? But instead of hanging members’ pictures on our walls as actual posters (I’m pretty sure I would have had a hard time getting volunteers for that!), I set out to create a pictorial Get Caught Reading booklist. So here are a few of the library members I recently caught reading in the library and the books they recommend.
What will you get caught reading this May? Whatever you’re reading, be sure to share your pictures with us on Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. #GetCaughtReading!
