Along with cooler weather and bright, crisp autumn leaves, October is filled with engaging, interactive library programs for early learners, kids and families, and teens. Check out our special storytimes, games, crafts, RPG adventures, and more.
Did you know…? Five of our libraries offer Free Afternoon Snack for kids ages 1–18, year-round. SCLD is an equal opportunity provider.
Young children and their caregivers can enjoy stories and activities to build early literacy skills, all while having fun, at our weekly Play & Learn Storytime programs. Be sure to attend an STA Touch-a-Bus Storytime for bus stories, a bus ride, and more. Your non-scary costumes are welcome at Spooktacular Storytime, where you can hear slightly spooky stories and do not-so-scary crafts and activities.
Parents and caregivers can watch Picture Book Chat to learn about the best new books to read with early learners.
All ages are invited to Fire Prevention Week: Touch a Fire Truck & Fire Safety House at Airway Heights Library. Get safety information, stickers, and more. Walk through the Fire Safety House, explore a fire truck, participate in a scavenger hunt, and make a firefighting craft.
Harness your detecting and critical thinking skills to look for clues, solve codes, and help crack The Case of the Missing Book (ages 8–12).
Our program Ciencia en español: programación / Science in Spanish: Coding is for kids ages 6–10 (and their families) who understand spoken Spanish and are willing to try speaking some.
Explore Games & Crafts from Around the World, along with eating candy from a variety of different countries (ages 5+ and their families). Try a new way to make art during Create Tin Foil Art (ages 5+ and their families). Prepare to get messy with a yarn and glue art project during Create Fall Yarn Art (ages 8+ and their families).
Stop by the library for LEGO Free Play and other STEAM programs and activities involving science, technology, engineering, art, math (ages 5+ and their families).
Be part of something meaningful. The Veterans History Project: Interview Training for Volunteers is for teens age 15 and older as well as adults. During this training, you get step-by-step guidance on how to carry out interviews that honor and capture the voices of our veterans.
During Teen RPG Club: Arcane Adventures (ages 13–17), gather friends or venture solo to the library for a one-shot adventure or an ongoing campaign with tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons.
Try new activities, such as programming your own video game, making art from upcycled materials, and more at Teen STEAM: Ignite Your Imagination (ages 13–17).
Squeeze all you can from toothpaste, cosmetic, and toiletry tubes with your own customized 3D-printed pusher during 3D Printing: Monster Toothpaste Pushers (teens and adults).
Grab the latest issue of Engage at your library and local grocery store or view it online to see library events for the rest of 2025 and into January.
