During this busy time of year, we hope you take a moment to explore and enjoy your interests at your local library.

December is filled with holiday joy, crafts, activities, games, and more at our libraries, with events and workshops for all ages, adults, teens, kids and families, as well as early learners.

For All Ages

Celebrate the season with your community! Tree lighting, stories, crafts, and more are offered for your enjoyment at Holiday Hoopla at Cheney Library and Spokane Valley Celebration of Lights.

For Adults

Our online programs in December include a cooking class and an author talk. Explore World Cooking: Ethiopian Food with Chef Hibra Tsegay of Amen Ethiopian Café. After signing up for the class, you’ll receive the ingredients list so that you can prepare ahead of time to cook along with the chef during the program. During her online author talk, Sue Hincenbergs discusses scheming wives and high-stakes hilarity in her novel The Retirement Plan in which murder is the name of the game.  

Sample holiday treats, and get suggestions for books and/or movies that pair well with them during Cozy Reads & Bakery Treats.

Avid family history explorers and anyone who is curious about their family’s past, the Genealogy Drop-In Session is for you. Discover the library’s genealogy resources and work with experienced genealogy enthusiasts to learn how to fill out your family tree and explore various genealogy websites to uncover your family’s history.

Memory Café provides a comfortable way for people to connect with other caregivers and people experiencing memory loss while also socializing and building new support networks. Activities include music, crafts, and more.

Costs and coverage for Medicare Part D plans and the Medicare Advantage plan can change every year, so it is important to review your plans for 2026. During a Medicare Open Enrollment One-on-One Session, trained volunteers can help you research, assess, and evaluate which options work best for you and your needs so you can make an informed decision. If you are new to Medicare or would like a refresher, then Medicare: Getting Started may be the session for you.

If you’re on the hunt for a job or thinking of switching careers, you can get WorkSource Drop-In Help each week at Spokane Valley Library.

If you’re curious about exploring your creativity with technology, then Choosing the Right Tool: 3D Printing, Laser Cutting & More may be the program for you. You can try out the library’s technology and equipment and get help with your projects during Maker Open Hours in The Lab.

For Teens

Gather friends or venture solo to the library for a one-shot adventure or an ongoing campaign with tabletop role-playing games, such as Dungeons & Dragons. From newbies to dragonslayers, all experience levels are welcome for Teen RPG Club: Arcane Adventures.

How do others play and have fun around the world? Drop in for Games & Crafts from Around the World to discover what other kids do across the globe.

During Make Winter Ornaments, you can create a bit of winter cheer with a tea light and a unique winter-themed ornament that you create.

Get ready for a custom adventure at the library! During Choose Your Own Adventure: Crafts & Activities, we ask you a few questions, and you choose what you’d like to do at each step. Experience your own unique program filled with fun challenges and crafts.

During Decoración de piñatas para familias (Piñata Decorating for Families), Spanish-speaking families can discover the origins of the piñata and work together to decorate a piñata for upcoming gatherings. This program is presented entirely in Spanish.

Stop into the library for an Engineering Challenge and these weekly and monthly STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) programs:

For Early Learners

Young children and their caregivers can enjoy stories and activities to build early literacy skills at our weekly Play & Learn Storytimes programs. Check out Picture Book Chat to see some of the best new books to read with early learners.

Activity & Reading Challenge

Sign up for the Game Quest Reading & Activity Challenge to read, play, and watch to earn points toward a variety of prizes provided by KSPS PBS! This challenge is for kids and teens ages 2–14 and concludes on December 21.
