This year’s Summer Reading theme “Level Up at Your Library” is based around puzzles and games, which may have you wondering how it relates to reading and the library.
Public Services Manager and librarian Mary Ellen Braks shares this insight:
“Playing games and solving puzzles is a fun way to continue learning through the summer to develop literacy, STEM, and social skills. Basically, you’re sneaking in learning through games.”
Everyone is encouraged to check out games, crafts, and events at our libraries for kids and families, tweens and teens, and adults.
Along with summer favorites such as Family Storytime in the Park and LEGO Free Play, you can explore engaging events, crafts, and activities for kids and families at our libraries:
For kids entering grades 2–5, our Camp Read-a-Rama and Campamento de verano en la biblioteca / Library Summer Camp in Spanish both offer enjoyable days of reading, crafting, and playing games at the library.
Tweens and teens can level up their technology, creativity, game play, and ecology skills this summer at libraries around Spokane County as well as at our creative and maker spaces.
