Library Out Loud

September is International Podcast Month. To celebrate, we encourage everyone to give a podcast a listen or view—whether it is your first time or if you are already a big fan.

Did you know that SCLD has a podcast? Library Out Loud: SCLD is a local, community-focused podcast where we talk about all the things you can do and find at the library.

We chat with our community partners, authors, librarians, and others in the community. Our topics often cover how our libraries and community partners can help the communities we serve.

Library Out Loud: SCLDis available in both audio and video formats. You can watch and listen on the following platforms.

Each season from September through May, new podcast episodes come out twice a month. So be sure to subscribe for the latest insights about library programs, materials, and services, plus new offerings from our community partners.

Podcast Topics

Here are just some of the topics we’ve shared as of the time of this post: digital resources, librarians answer, library of things, and more.

Digital Resources

Kicking off our 6th season of Library Out Loud, we talk with librarian and public services manager Stacey about our online classes that offer lifelong learning for a wide variety of topics.

Other podcasts highlighting SCLD’s digital resources include:

Librarians Answer

The podcast series Librarians Answer delves into questions related to the library that our customers have asked. This series is both informative and entertaining. Our librarians show the breadth and depth of support and value that our libraries bring to the community.

Other Librarians Answer podcasts include:

Library of Things

SCLD’s Library of Things is a non-traditional collection that includes small appliances, sports equipment, technology, tools, musical instruments, STEM kits, and more.

Even More Topics

Do you know about SCLD’s library on wheels? During the podcast about SCLD’s Mobile Services, see the inside of LINC and hear about our Mobile Services team and how they bring the whole library to communities throughout Spokane County.

Discover how our Memory Cafés got started and continue to provide a space for caregivers and people experiencing memory loss to connect and build support networks. As this program has evolved, we’ve added activities that include listening to music, playing games, and doing crafts.

The podcast about our Reading Buddy Program shares how you can volunteer to help elementary school students develop their reading skills and a love of reading.

We delve into Read-Along Books for early readers up to middle grade readers that combine words on the page with an audiobook that’s a speaker attached directly to the book. This technology can be useful for anyone learning to read, readers with dyslexia, and anyone who enjoys reading while listening.

Even popular books and blockbuster movies get panned by audiences or reviewers. During our One-Star Review podcasts, we share negative reviews with each other and see if the other person can guess the title. Can you guess the movie or book before we do?

We also strive to share timely topics on the Library Out Loud: SCLD podcast, such as upcoming events, both at our libraries and in the community. If you have a podcast topic that you think we might want to cover, you can share it with us using the Comments or Suggestions form.
