Make the Most of Spokane Is Reading This Year at These Creative Events

Spokane Is Reading
Since 2002, Spokane Is Reading has presented its annual one-book, community-wide reading program to the greater Spokane area. It encourages dialogue and builds community through a shared experience of literature and invites an author for two events in the fall that are open to the public with free admission.
For 2026, the selected title, One Two Three, by Laurie Frankel, is a story told by three unforgettable narrators, the Mitchell sisters, about their determination to uncover mysteries buried longer than they’ve been alive and fight for justice for their town and its residents.
Along with the author events, you can participate in additional library events inspired by this year’s book: the Fall Community Art Show and two writing workshops. For additional books to read, check out the read-alike booklist.
Spokane Is Reading is a partnership between Spokane Public Library, Spokane County Library District, and Auntie’s Bookstore.
Author Events
Spokane Is Reading Presents: Laurie Frankel & Her Novel One Two Three
For teens & adults
During this Spokane Is Reading event, bestselling and award-winning author Laurie Frankel reads from her novel One Two Three and answers questions from the audience.
Copies of Frankel’s books will be available for purchase from Auntie’s Bookstore at the event. Frankel will sign her books for attendees after the author talk.
These events are open to the public with free admission.

For all ages
Theme: Art & Our Environment
This year’s fall art show focuses on motifs found in the novel One Two Three, by Laurie Frankel, the 2026 selection for Spokane Is Reading. These motifs include our environment, climate change, and polluted or poisoned natural resources.
Stop by the library to pick up a small wooden circle to use for your art canvas. Wooden circles are provided while supplies last.
When you’ve finished creating your art, return it to the library before the deadline. The library will only display art created on the supplied wooden circle for this art show. Artwork must be appropriate for all ages.

For all ages
View a showcase of artwork by local artists of all ages. This year’s fall art show focuses on motifs found in the novel One Two Three, by Laurie Frankel, which is the 2026 selection for Spokane Is Reading. These include our environment, climate change, and polluted or poisoned natural resources. Each library displays art created by artists from its community, as space allows.
Artists may pick up their art after the show, Nov 1–10. Any art left at libraries after Nov 10 will be recycled.

Movement & Flow: A Writing Workshop Inspired by Water
For adults
This workshop focuses on the importance of water and waterways to our health, recreation, wildlife, environment, and our city. The creative writing prompts for this workshop offer you ideas for writing about the movement and flow of water as it relates to you, your community, and the world.

Walk & Write: A Writing Workshop Inspired by Rivers
For adults
Take a slow walk around the Spokane River and waterfalls, and then return to Central Library for river-related writing prompts. This event is inspired by the 2026 Spokane Is Reading book One Two Three, by Laurie Frankel.
