September offers opportunities to explore your creativity at the library as well as classes for adults, tweens and teens, and kids and families.
Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, find a relaxing hobby, or continue your journey of lifelong learning, our libraries offer programs and sessions for a wide variety of interests. Sign up and stop by to see what you can do!

September is Quilting & Sewing Arts Month at The Lab at North Spokane Library for adults, teens, and tweens. This celebration of the textile arts includes open hours when adults can drop in to get sewing and quilting help from experienced quilting volunteers and use equipment including a longarm quilting machine.
Library programs during the month include sewing projects for tweens and teens, a four-part quilting class for adults, and a session about coordinating colors and patterns for your next quilting project. Quilters of all skill levels are invited to gather, learn, and create together.
Our libraries are having a fall art show and you’re invited to participate! The art show theme is “Art & Our Environment” and focuses on motifs found in the novel One Two Three, by Laurie Frankel, the 2026 selection for Spokane Is Reading. These motifs include our environment, climate change, and polluted or poisoned natural resources. Find out more about our September Call for Submissions: Fall Community Art Show for artists of all ages and skill levels.
Also inspired by themes from the 2026 Spokane Is Reading title, Movement & Flow: A Writing Workshop Inspired by Water is a writing workshop that focuses on the importance of water and waterways to our health, recreation, wildlife, environment, and our city and is presented by local writer Linea Jantz.
Other creative classes for adults include Watercolor Paint & Play, Native American Beadwork, Introduction to Bookbinding, and 3D Printing: Decorated Mini Pumpkins (teens and adults).
Kids ages 5 and older and their families are invited to our Wild Things Art Creation sessions to make masks and other crafts inspired by Maurice Sendak’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

In September’s online World Cooking class, you can learn to prepare a traditional Italian recipe with chef Jamie Aquino of The Kitchen Engine. Be sure to attend A Jelly & Jam Session! See how to make delectable spreads with low or no sugar, full sugar, and honey with presenter Brandy Sears of Mountain View Venue at Bluff Dweller Farm.
During Survival Skills Hike: Let’s Go Foraging!, explore nature, guided by Charlie Bouck of Herbal Expeditions, with an emphasis on how to forage and survive in a woodland area.
Gardening classes and events at our libraries shift focus to harvest season with Produce Swaps and an Introduction to Seed Saving and preparing for next spring’s garden with a class on Planting Bulbs.
Find out how to use social media and marketing strategies to grow your business, connect with customers, and build a strong brand presence at the online SCORE Spokane workshop Social Media & Marketing for Business.
Other library programs in September include sessions about genealogy, a Mend It Café, Medicare, preventing falls, dementia, Memory Cafés, and financial and consumer education classes.

The Teen D&D Guild, a monthly gathering for teens ages 13–17, is looking for new and seasoned players to band together to journey through murky dungeons and embark on daring quests! Each session, we’re playing 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons standalone adventures. Plus, see how to run one-shot adventures of your own or start a gaming group during Teen Dungeon-Master Boot Camp.
Our LEGO Stop-Motion Studio session returns for tweens and teens ages 8–14, where you can learn how to create and edit video of LEGO characters moving, jumping, and talking to each other to make a short stop-motion movie.
Tweens and teens (ages 10–14) can get hands-on video production experience at The STCU Studio. Work as a team to plan, film, and edit a video that showcases your creativity while you learn the basics of storytelling, camera work, and editing, during Video Team: Learning to Create & Edit.

Get your Back-to-School Photos for kids, teens, and families at the library. Drop by The STCU Studio at Spokane Valley Library to capture photos, turning a yearly milestone into a family tradition celebrating learning and curiosity.
Take an outing to the library for STEAM programs including LEGO Free Play and after-school activities. Engage imaginations with activities related to science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
