Summer Fun Continues with 15+ Things to Do at the Library in August

Summertime activities and events in August help you get creative with robots, 3D printing, sound effects, and more. Share a love of nature and food during a geology walk, produce swaps, and workshops for making yummy food and drink.
Summer isn’t over yet, and you can keep exploring events and activities at our libraries.
All Ages & Adults
During Medical Lake Geo-Walk & Water Sampling (adults, teens & tweens), hear about the lake’s history and natural science. Walkers also assist in gathering water samples for stormwater research and picking up trash along the way.
Experienced 3D printing creators can create a hinged treasure box suitable for holding small treasures during Intermediate 3D Printing: Hinged Treasure Box (adults & teens).
Produce Swaps (all ages) start up in August at six of our libraries. Bring fresh produce from your garden and take home something different from another garden. Three workshops share insights into making delicious food and drink. Learn how to make beef jerky, sourdough bread, and kombucha (adults).
Topics for Dementia Caregivers Workshops (adults) held weekly at North Spokane Library in August include Local Dementia Resources, Emergency Situations, Care in Mid- and Late-Stage Dementia, and End-of-Life Conversations.

Gain valuable insights and practical tips, including how to identify ideal customers, create compelling calls to action, avoid retail turnoffs and pitfalls, adjust prices strategically, optimize coupon offers, and maximize holiday sales.

Kids & Teens
Meet Cedar the Highland Cow & Her Calf Clover, Mascot of the 75th Interstate Fair (ages 4+ & their families) and hear the story of Cedar’s first year of life, told by author Honey Louise Smith. Cedar and Clover will also be available for photo opportunities and petting.
For the first time, Mini Camp Read-a-Rama is taking place at Airway Heights and Deer Park Libraries, for kids entering grades 2–5. Kids get to read and explore children’s books, and then we’ll use the books’ themes for our activities during this 3-day camp. When you make reading part of your summer, you set yourself up for success in the coming school year.
If you love robots but aren’t technically inclined, then Hebocon is for you. Hebocon 2026: The Junky Robot Competition (ages 10–14) is a one-day workshop to create a robot from assorted junk and gadgets and then battle your robot against others in a sumo-style battle.
During Escape Room with a Twist (ages 10–14), use your observation skills and critical thinking to complete escape room-style challenges, such as logic puzzles, math problems, codes, and ciphers. See if you can make it to the end in 40 minutes or less.
Twist knobs, layer effects, and transform your voice and everyday noises with reverb, delay, distortion, and more. Audio FX: Make Some Noise (ages 10–14) is a hands-on program that lets you experiment and create sound in new ways.
Summer Reading activities also continue at our libraries through August, including I SURVIVED: The Invasion of the Library, 2026, Dog Man Supa’ Adventures: Activities & Crafts, Cookie Decorating, Bedazzled Books: Diamond Art Covers, and Introduction to Watercolors.
