One Book, One Coast with George Takei
One Book, One Coast is a shared community reading program across the West Coast with over 190 libraries participating in Washington, Oregon, and California.
You’re invited to read the graphic memoir They Called Us Enemy and view the live, online author talk with author George Takei. The memoir recounts George’s childhood imprisonment in American incarceration camps during World War II.
This live, streaming event is presented by LA County Library and One Book, One Coast.

About the Book & the Author
George Takei is best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sulu in the acclaimed television and film series Star Trek. Takei is an actor, New York Times bestselling author, and activist. His acting career has spanned five decades, with more than 40 feature films and hundreds of television guest-starring roles to his credit.
With the outbreak of World War II, California-born Takei and his family were placed behind the barbed-wire enclosures of U.S. incarceration camps along with 120,000 other Japanese Americans. In his graphic memoir, They Called Us Enemy, Takei revisits his haunting childhood in two American prison camps. This graphic memoir shares the experiences that shaped an American icon in a gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love.
