Following is information on SCLD’s free Computer Classes for 2009.

Class size is limited. Please call or stop by a library branch to register. Classes begin @ 2pm

Categories Include...

Computer Basics: Prerequisite - none
Never touched a keyboard or a mouse? This class is for you. We will go over what computers can and cannot do, and the difference between hardware and software, and what an operating system is. You will learn about the keyboard and mouse, what a desktop is, how to work with programs and files, and the proper ways to turn computers on and off.

Web Basics: Prerequisite - can use a mouse
Learn what a browser is and how to use it, three ways to access a website, and how to tell if a website is secure. We will go over the parts of a web address, the different types of web pages, how to effectively use a search engine and web directory, and how to print only the pages you want.

Email Basics: Prerequisite - know how to use a mouse and web browser
If the email revolution has passed you by, this class is for you! Learn how to send and receive messages, attach and download files, delete emails, deal with spam and more. Stay after class to create your own account if you’d like.

Word Basics: Prerequisite - can use a keyboard and mouse
An introduction to the main functions of Microsoft Word 2003, including how to create a letter or paper; format and modify text; open and save a document; cut, copy and paste text; use the spell/grammar check.
