Board Names New Executive Director

Spokane County Library District’s Board of Trustees announced at their meeting on December 20, 2011, that Nancy Ledeboer will become SCLD’s new Executive Director effective March 1, 2012.

“We are very excited to have Nancy coming on board,” said Board Chair Tim Hattenburg. “Her passion for libraries, commitment to community partnerships, knowledge of the industry and breadth of experiences make her the perfect fit for Spokane County Library District.”

Current Executive Director Mike Wirt will be retiring on February 24, 2012, after 40 years with the District. Named Director in 1979, Wirt is the senior library director in Washington State.

Nancy Ledeboer received her Master of Library and Information Science degree from University of California, Berkley. Since 2005, Ledeboer has served as Library Director for Pima County Public Library in Pima County, Arizona, which is comprised of 27 branches. While with Pima County Library District, Ledeboer established a Virtual Library to revitalize online services and opened four new libraries, two satellites and renovated several existing libraries. During her tenure, Pima County Library District partnered with organizations to offer GED, literacy and citizenship classes, and introduced Job Clubs to provide computer access and support for job seekers.

Ledeboer previously worked as Deputy Director & Chief Operations Officer at Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, as the Associate Director of Public Services for King County Library System and as Deputy Director of Public Services at Spokane Public Library. She is the outgoing President of the Arizona Library Association and is an active member of the American Library Association and the Public Library Association.
